Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is located in southwestern Uganda, near the borders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is one of the most biologically diverse and ecologically significant rainforests in the world, covering about 321 square kilometres of rugged terrain. It is home to approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it a prime destination for gorilla trekking. In addition to gorillas, Bwindi is rich in wildlife, including other primates, birds, reptiles, and a variety of plant species, many of which are endemic to the region. Gorilla Trekking can be carried out in one of the allocated sectors Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo.
